Quality of Natural Stones

Do you really know the quality of the gemstones you buy online?

For many, the answer is no.

Reliable references to the quality of natural gemstones online are scarce,
opening the door open for stores selling low-quality stones at exorbitant prices, often without customers even realizing it.

Take a close look at this image:

The difference is striking, isn’t it?

Yes, all these stones are natural—but their quality varies significantly.

(Except for the bracelet made of plastic stones.)

Most gemstones sold online are often either counterfeits or, at best, B-grade quality, preventing access to the finest stones for jewelry.

At Lumbini, we promise to offer only natural gemstones of A and AAA quality.

This ensures access to stones that are:

  • High quality
  • Fairly priced
  • Able to retain their shine over time

Here is Understanding Our Gemstone Classification System:

AAA Quality : (Used by luxury jewelry houses)

  • The highest quality gemstones, extremely rare

  • Exceptional clarity, vibrant and uniform color, perfectly cut

  • Used in high-end and collectible jewelry

  • Sold at extremely high prices

AA Quality :

  • Very high-quality gemstones with excellent clarity and color

  • Slight inclusions or minimal color variations possible

  • Used for affordable luxury jewelry

  • Sold at high prices

 A Quality :

  • Good quality gemstones with decent clarity and color

  • Visible inclusions and possible color variations

  • Used for high-quality jewelry for everyday wear

  • More affordable compared to higher grades

B Quality : (Used by most online stores)

  • Stones with visible inclusions and noticeable color variations

  • Still natural, but of lower quality

  • Mostly used for fashion jewelry and decorative objects

  • We do not sell B-grade stones, as their final appearance is often poor and unappealing.

How to Determine the Quality of a Natural Gemstone?

According to our GIA-certified gemologists (Gemological Institute of America), there are 7 key criteria to evaluate a gemstone's quality:

Criterion 1: Color

The intensity and uniformity of the color are essential for a rich and consistent hue.

Criterion 2: Clarity

The absence of inclusions and internal flaws ensures a perfectly pure gemstone.

Criterion 3: Cut

The precision of the cut and symmetry are crucial for a well-balanced and elegant shape.

Criterion 4: Brilliance

A gemstone’s shine and light reflection determine how optimally it captures and reflects light.

Criterion 5: Durability

Resistance to wear and impact is a key indicator of a stone's longevity and reliability.

Criterion 6: Origin

The geographical origin and extraction conditions determine the ethical and environmental impact of the gemstone.

Criterion 7: Rarity

Limited availability and high market demand give a gemstone its unique and exclusive value.
